2009 SS/RHP Ryne Poplin, of South Stanly High School in Norwood, NC, is blossoming at the perfect time. The 5'9'' 160lb Poplin has enjoyed a breakout senior season as he leads his team to the state championship series this weekend. He possesses an intense passion for the weight room before school and it carries over to his game. Ryne is among the state leaders with 12 jacks this season as 2 came in the western regional clinching game two against defending state champion Cherryville. The light hitting leadoff reputation is fleeting fast as his fun loving confidence fuels his teammates to succeed. Entering the final games of the high school season, Ryne takes a .478 average with 9 doubles, 12 home runs, 42 runs scored and 31 runs batted in, while only striking out 8 times to Five County Stadium, home of the Mudcats. He will pitch game 2 in hopes of bettering his 7 wins and leading his team to the first baseball state championship in Stanly County history. |
